Tomcats smoking Zeros in “The Final Countdown”.
I loved the idea of this as a kid, but as I got older it always made me think of the story of Japanese holdouts after the war in the Pacific came to an end. ”Holdouts” as they were known were Japanese soldiers who refused to believe the war was over or never received word due to broken lines of communication. The last holdouts to come out of hiding were in the Philippines in the mid 1970’s! I could only imagine what they must have thought if they looked up and saw a 1970’s era U.S fighter jet out of Cubi Point (like the F-14) flying overhead!
My dad was on the Nimitz when they were filming this movie.
